This project is located in a newly completed park in the suburbs of Shanghai. The original building was a supporting facility within the park but had never been put into use after its completion. With the opening of a nearby metro station, the surrounding area began to develop new growth potential. In response, the local government aimed to create a new building type more aligned with future local consumer demographics through new design concepts and business models.
The design focuses on "environmental protection, fashion, and culture." By adding a series of perforated copper metal sunshades installed on the building's southern facade, and incorporating tea leaf motifs into the sunshade's imagery, the design achieves an energy-efficient, poetic, and tea culture-representative leisure club. Additionally, adjustments and modifications to certain spaces and volumes introduced new layers and richness to the originally open but narratively lacking space. Especially noteworthy is the addition of a uniquely shaped cantilevered space on the western side, which not only meets the need for private rooms indoors but also provides spatial tension and visual impact for park visitors approaching the building. The interior renovation continues the "tea" theme of the facade, using laminated glass with tea leaves, green tiles, and copper metal sheets for partitions, lighting fixtures, and other interior constructions.
Before the detailed design of the club project commenced, the client also commissioned us to design the park's north entrance in the same style, which was completed in a very short time. The results of this initial construction served as a reference and basis for the detailed design and construction of the club.
